Life Moves Through Seasons, and So Do We
October arrives quietly.
The mornings are cooler. The light begins to soften. The gardens are beginning to rest, and the leaves slowly begin their beautiful transformation.
Nature reminds us that change is inevitable. That every season has its purpose. That letting go is part of growing, and that what comes next can be beautiful in ways we cannot yet imagine.
Life moves through seasons, and so do we.
There are seasons of beginnings and seasons of endings. Seasons of joy and seasons of uncertainty. Seasons when we feel strong and capable, and seasons when we need someone to walk beside us.
Recently, our Active Living 55+ community experienced one of those difficult seasons alongside one of our members.
He unexpectedly lost his son.
Most of us had never met his son. We didn’t know his story or the life he had lived. But we knew his father.
We knew his kindness. His compassion. His honesty. His ability to bring joy to the people around him. We knew someone who has experienced grief before, yet continues to show up for others—in the big moments and the quiet ones.
And when his world was suddenly changed by an unimaginable loss, something happened that stayed with me.
He was surrounded.
Surrounded by people who cared.
By cards and conversations. By quiet gestures and words of comfort. By people who attended, reached out, listened and simply made themselves available.
There were no perfect words. There didn’t need to be.
There was presence, and perhaps that, is the quiet power of community.
We share more than activities. We share pieces of our lives. We share laughter and stories, celebrations and milestones. We share transitions, uncertainty, heartache and grief.
Sometimes we are the ones offering strength, and sometimes we are the ones who need it.
We don’t always know what season someone is walking through.
The person sitting beside us at coffee may be navigating a life-changing transition. The person who makes us laugh may be carrying a private heartache. And sometimes, simply knowing that someone is there can make the weight feel a little lighter.
That is why showing up matters.
So, we keep showing up. We surround one another. We walk through the seasons together.
Because life moves through seasons, and so do we.
And perhaps the greatest comfort of all is knowing that when our own season becomes difficult, we won’t have to walk through it alone.
