CLKD Launches New Program for ALL people over 55

Community Living Kincardine and District (CLKD) is proud to announce the expansion of its services to include programming and support for all people aged 55 and over in the Municipality of Kincardine through its new ActiveLiving 55+ program.

For over 60 years, CLKD has been supporting people with developmental disabilities to live enriched, meaningful lives as independently as possible, while staying fully connected to their community. Building on this mission, CLKD is extending its inclusive approach to all seniors, ensuring that people aged 55+, regardless of their ability, are supported to live and age well within their community.

“Over the years, we’ve heard from many individuals and caregivers about the gaps in services for seniors, especially those who may not qualify for traditional supports,” said Andy Swan, Executive Director of CLKD. “Our new direction is a natural evolution of our mission and vision, and it allows us to work towards addressing the needs of our aging population.”

Funding was secured through the Ministry of Seniors and Accessibility to enable CLKD and our community partners to offer programs in various accessible locations throughout the Municipality of Kincardine that focus on reducing social isolation and loneliness, and increasing education, health and wellness.

“Seniors Active Living Centre programs are helping to protect seniors by providing access to the resources and community connections they need to combat social isolation and promote wellness. We are honoured to support the expansion of Community Living Kincardine and District’s services through the new ActiveLiving 55+ program and their dedication to providing a supportive and inclusive community for seniors of all abilities to thrive and age with dignity” said Raymond Cho, Minister for Seniors and Accessibility.

The seniors’ active living project delivers programs and services that support mental and physical health and wellness, safety and education and social connection. Community Living Kincardine and District will also offer service navigation and support to connect with various services and supports already existing in our community.

“I commend Community Living Kincardine and District (CLKD) for its forward-thinking approach in expanding services through the new ActiveLiving 55+ program,” said Lisa Thompson, MPP for Huron-Bruce. “This initiative demonstrates a strong commitment to enhancing the quality of life for older adults in the Municipality of Kincardine. By offering inclusive programming and meaningful support, CLKD is fostering a more engaged, connected, and age-friendly community. I am confident this expansion will have a lasting and positive impact on the lives of many residents from within our region.”

Drawing on models from other successful rural communities, CLKD has developed person-directed solutions that empower seniors to choose how they wish to be supported, preserving their dignity, independence, and sense of self-worth.

Through the Seniors’ Active Living program, future programming will include wellness classes, social gatherings, education sessions, and one-on-one navigation support—connecting individuals with local services and resources.

“Everyone deserves to age with dignity and connection,” says Seniors Active Living Coordinator, Jodee Beer. “We’re excited to open our doors wider and build a more inclusive, supportive community for all.”
