Our annual “Lots of Socks” campaign broke the record for most posters distributed in one year! This year, CLKD distributed approximately 120 posters and portraits throughout the Municipality of Kincardine and the Township of Huron-Kinloss in support of World Down Syndrome Day.
Businesses decorated their windows with messages of inclusion, posters about World Down syndrome Day and its goals, portraits of our local models and, of course, SOCKS! Once the socks were hung and the windows were ready, businesses submitted photos of their displays for voting. The community had the weekend to vote for their favourite display and at noon on Monday, March 21st, World Down Syndrome Day (aka “Lots of Socks Day”) the voting closed and Kincardine Dentistry took the win for 2022. Huron Heights placed a very close second and Ideal Supply came in third with a snowman made from socks that stood about six feet tall!
We would like to thank each and every business who participated, the staff and volunteers who helped decorate business windows, the community who followed along, voted and helped to raise awareness, and to our amazing partners - Photographer Jamie Edwards of JME Photography Studio who volunteered his amazing skills and to Bruce Power who printed and donated this year’s posters and portraits.
